Simple ideas for fixing big pest problems

Here’s some non-toxic ideas brought to you by S.J. Neathawk for getting rid of some pests that may try to get into your home, or are already there:

Ants in the house
If you see ants crawling inside your house on the countertops, you obviously won’t want to use toxic chemicals near your food. Instead use the option that S.J. Neathawk discusses which is putting soapy water in a spray bottle. Ants don’t like it and it should alleviate your problem without having to throw away all of your food because you sprayed chemicals.

Chalk it up
To get rid of the ant problem in your house it’s always best to go right to the source: outside. A simple tip that S.J. Neathawk offers is to use normal white sidewalk chalk around the areas you think they are coming in. This works because ants use pheromones to guide their travel and that scent is lost in the chalk.

Removing a cricket from your home
Has Jiminy been making a bit too much noise while you’re try to sleep at night? S.J. Neathawk recommends dampening a few washcloths and putting them in your bathroom and kitchen sinks. Also, put a couple of washcloths on plates near where you think the noise might be coming from. In the morning, you should find the cricket sleeping on one of the washcloths.

Squirrels or birds in the chimney
If you’re hearing some squeaks from squirrels or chirps from birds from your chimney, it’s time to act fast to make sure that nothing comes in. S.J. Neathawk says to put a large pan of ammonia in the hearth and let in sit there. The animals will not like the smell that drifts up and should go away.
