For a lot of people, there are few things more satisfying or rewarding than becoming fully immersed in a creative project that they enjoy: A hobby. The downside is, the aforementioned “immersion” usually means the entire family is immersed as well. The dining room table, kitchen counters, or half of the living room can easily fill up with materials as the hobbyist does his or her work. In fact, for most people, just having to deal with the clutter and the need to haul everything out of the closet is enough to keep them from working on their hobby more often.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a separate room dedicated to your hobby? Everything you need to pursue your creative spark can be within an arm’s reach. The best part is, when you’re done for the day you can simply close the door. The beauty of a hobby room is that everything you need, whether it is materials such as paint, fabrics, scrapbooking supplies, can all be stored in the place where the work takes place. No more needing to gather your tools from all corners of the house, only to have to replace them when you’re finished. Your family will certainly appreciate a hobby room since they won’t have to wade through everything anymore.
If you have a spare bedroom, just a few alterations are all it takes to easily convert it into a hobby room. Scrapbooking, painting, sewing, photography, sculpting-you name it --by having all of your materials always at the ready, you may find yourself able to enjoy your hobby much more.
Depending on your hobby needs, there are many things you can do to make your workspace more productive and pleasant to be in.
- Cabinets and countertops provide perfect workspace and storage. You can utilize the same storage helpers that you would use in your kitchen, such as pull out shelving and “lazy susan” corner cabinets.
- Install a pegboard for easy access to all of your tools. Color-coordinate it to match your décor with a durable semi-gloss paint and enjoy a lasting finish.
- A kitchen island on casters can be very useful for any job, while providing extra storage and workspace when you need it.
- If you decide to use base cabinets under your countertop, leave some of the doors off to allow for open shelves or slide out baskets.
- Since this room is dedicated for your hobby, don’t forget to decorate for inspiration. Whether it’s sewing, scrapbooking, photography, or quilting, show off your creations and get them up on the wall!
Just because you’ve decided to dedicate the spare room to your hobbies, doesn’t mean you still can’t make room for guests. Consider leaving enough room for a foldout sofa with an end table and lamp. It will give you a place to relax while contemplating your next project, or a place for someone else to relax while you’re working away. When any last minute guest show up, you’ll have a fold-out bed in a quiet room that will make them comfortable.
For everything you need to make the hobby room you’ve always wanted finally become a reality, come on in and count on our friendly staff. We’ll help you build the play room that your creative side has always wanted.
